Industrial Process
Industrial process emissions account for around 5 per cent of Australia’s emissions. These emissions are from chemical reactions (other than fuel combustion) and include synthetic greenhouse gases. The largest individual sources of industrial process emissions are iron and steel making, cement and lime making and aluminium smelting.
Emissions from industrial processes would be covered from scheme commencement by applying scheme obligations to facilities with direct emissions of 25 000 tonnes or more of carbon dioxide equivalent a year.
