Stationary Energy

Stationary Energy covers mainly carbon dioxide from combustion of fossil fuels for electricity generation. It contributes around 50 per cent of Australia’s emissions, and is Australia’s largest and fastest growing source of emissions.

If CPRS is implemented, Stationary energy emissions would be covered from scheme commencement by applying scheme obligations both to facilities with direct emissions of 25 000 tonnes or more of carbon dioxide equivalent a year and to suppliers of fuel to small energy users.

In the scenario of carbon tax also, this sectoral scope should be covered, more details will be available only after June 2011.
